Pro Bono Award Winners
Pro Bono awards--presented annually--spotlight the diversity of volunteer commitment, whether by geography, subject matter or special project.

Last year, 3,352 people were helped through Pro Bono by the volunteer efforts of more than 1,000 attorneys and their support staff, plus the NHBA Pro Bono staff.

In recognition of the tremendous service Bar members provide by volunteering to represent disadvantaged and vulnerable citizens through the NHBA Pro Bono Referral Program, the Bar Association is coordinating a month-long celebration of Pro Bono in NH.

Bruce Friedman Award

Bruce Friedman

For the first time, NHBA Pro Bono is collaborating with the UNH School of Law Social Justice Institute to present an award to honor the accomplishments of a Pierce Law/UNH School of Law alumni member who exemplifies the commitment to public service of Friedman, the late founder of the civil practice clinic and a legend in the world of civil legal services in NH. The award was presented October 16 at UNH School of Law.

"Bruce was a rare individual who could inspire you to run out and search any way possible to help others and make a difference."
- Cheryl Landry, ‘98 Pierce Law

Governor’s proclamation

Gov. Lynch has signed a proclamation in honor of Pro Bono, which notes, in part: "By offering this volunteer assistance the NH Pro Bono Program, its volunteer attorneys and many individual lawyers and law firms throughout the State substantially enhance the rule of law by providing legal assistance to help resolve fundamental civil legal issues, thereby strengthening our communities and democratic way of life…" Our Pro Bono month is an extension of the national observance of Pro Bono Week by the ABA.

Members will also see the "High Five for Pro Bono" logo on Bar Association materials – reminding all to celebrate and support our Pro Bono program. (Also, $5 from each tuition fee from the live NHBA CLE programs in October will go directly to Pro Bono, highlighting the Bar's support year-round for this important public and member service. )

This just in...

Pamela Dodge, long-time coordinator of the Pro Bono Domestic Violence Emergency Project (DOVE) has been inducted into the Coalition Hall of Fame by the NH Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. The recognition will take place at the Coalition’s Hall of Fame luncheon on Oct. 29, 2012 -- a fitting close to NH’s first Pro Bono Month! Learn more.
