Dear High School Mock Trial Coaches:
It is my pleasure to invite you to the 2010 Yale University High School Mock Trial Tournament held on the historic Old Campus District of Yale University in New Haven, CT on Saturday, February 13, 2010. As usual, the tournament combines competition rounds adjudicated by experienced mock trial judges, informative workshops, and the gorgeous setting of Linsly-Chittenden Hall to provide a memorable and rewarding tournament for students and coaches alike.
This year’s tournament comes with a number of changes, which we are sure you will be pleased with. Workshops between the first two rounds have been a popular part of the tournament, and this year we have decided to expand the workshop portion of the schedule to include two separate workshop opportunities for students to allow them to get information on and ask more questions relating to a wider variety of topics. Additionally, we plan on having a workshop for coaches if there is enough interest to discuss best coaching practices, what national level judges look for, and how to build strong, lasting programs. We hope this will be an enjoyable forum for coaches and educators to get to know one another. Lastly, for the first year we will be providing an optional lunch for students at an additional charge. We realize that while many schools enjoy exploring downtown New Haven that this can be a logistical (and supervisorial) challenge with so many students looking for food in so short a time.
If you would like to sign up your team, please complete a registration form.
Unlike other collegiate mock trial programs that charge up to $150 per student, our program is dedicated to providing an affordable to service to mock trial programs around the country. The base cost is $28/student without lunch, $35/student with lunch. Adults and other observers who would like to enjoy lunch but who are not student participants in the workshops or competing in the round can also purchase lunch for $7. Students who are not competing in rounds may attend workshops, but they must pay the full registration price. After registering online, please remit payment by check made payable to Yale Mock Trial Association and mail to:

Please keep in mind that students will be expected to use the rules and case materials as posted and updated at the above address and they will receive lower scores if they fail to do so. A full schedule of the tournament is attached. As stated earlier, we have decided to provide students with the ability to attend two 45-minute workshops. While we are still finalizing the workshop curriculum, here is a list of a few of the workshops we expect to offer:
Objections & the Rules of Evidence
Statements & Rhetoric
Developing Witness Character
Ten Steps to a Perfect Cross Examination
We hope that you will be able to join us for what promises to be an exciting tournament in February. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, or my co-tournament director, Ashna Reddy, with any questions.
Very best, and wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving,
