Comments on Chief Justice Broderick's Decision to Step Down
Attorney Peter M. Sullivan (via NH Bar Association Facebook page):
Chief Justice Broderick has always had a genuine passion for ensuring that the legal system is accessible to everyone, no matter their social or economic status. I have a feeling that the constant shortchanging of the court system has left him frustrated beyond words.
From NHBA President James J. Tenn, Jr., June 21, 2010:
It is with deep regret that the NH Bar Association has learned of the intention of Chief Justice John T. Broderick, Jr. to step down from the NH Supreme Court on Nov. 30. On behalf of the Bar Association, I want to express our profound appreciation to the Chief Justice for his unwavering commitment to the judicial system and to the people of New Hampshire. He will be long-remembered for his advocacy for, and leadership of, the New Hampshire Court system. For the past 15 years, while serving on the Supreme Court, Justice Broderick has used his position to advocate for greater availability of legal services for the poor, and for funding of the judicial process commensurate with the Constitutional mandate to make justice available to all citizens.
In a decision made before the announcement, the NH Bar Association selected Chief Justice Broderick to receive the William A. Grimes Award for Judicial Professionalism. The award will be presented at the Association’s 2010 Annual Meeting to be held June 25-26 at the Omni Mt. Washington Resort in Bretton Woods.
