In Memoriam - James L. Cunningham
 

James L. Cunningham

A FORMER MARINE fighter pilot and vice president of government contracts for Sanders Associates in Nashua, James L. Cunningham died in Concord, Mass., March 24, 2002 at the age of 82. Bar News was only recently notified of his death.

Cunningham was born in Lincoln, Mass. on March 1, 1920, the son of George and Elizabeth (McKinley) Cunningham. He attended Lincoln public schools, Concord (Mass.) High School and Waltham High School (from which he graduated). He earned his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and his law degree from Boston University School of Law.

During World War II and the Korean conflict, Cunningham served as a fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps.

Cunningham was admitted to the Mass. Bar in 1952 and the NH Bar in 1974. He worked in the Legal Contracts Department at Grumman Aircraft on Long Island, NY. He then went to work at Sanders Associates in Nashua, where he worked for 20 years, retiring in 1985 as vice president of government contracts.

A lifelong resident of Lincoln, Mass., Cunningham was a co-founder of the Lincoln Little League and was a former player on the Lincoln Mohawks amateur baseball team. He served on the Board of Appeals in Lincoln, and was the town liaison for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Cunningham was a member of the International Bar Association, Maynard Country Club and Fort Devens Golf Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Patricia (Lally) Cunningham; a son, Casey Cunningham of Lincoln, Mass.; two daughters, Paula Southworth of Vershire, Vt. and Jane Newcomer of Groton, Mass.; four grandchildren; and a nephew.
