Celebrating Ten Years of Pro Bono Golf
MANY HAVE PLAYED every tournament since 1993. Others have joined the fun in more recent years. For some, this tournament is the only time they'll hit the links all year! Others are avid golfers, playing every chance they can manage.
Whatever their golfing acumen, for 10 years attorneys, judges and business supporters from around the state have participated in the Quid Pro Bono Golf Tournament to help raise money for the work of the NH Bar Association's Pro Bono Referral Program. This year, old and new friends will once again turn out June 5 at the Lake Sunapee Country Club in New London to drive, birdie, bogey and putt, all for a very good cause.
Here are results of an informal survey of golfers, from the experienced to the beginner, about the Quid Pro Bono Tournament:
- "The tournament has become a tradition. Going into the tenth year, the event continues to be good for the Bar, the Pro Bono Program and the disadvantaged people its serves. And occasionally you can hit a good shot!"
- Retired NH Supreme Court Justice and Honorary Tournament Co-Chair William Batchelder, Plymouth
- "The Pro Bono Golf Tournament is a great way to develop camaraderie with other lawyers and support a great cause at the same time.
- Gary Richardson, Upton & Hatfield, Concord
- "I participated for the first time last year and had a blast, even though I'm a horrid golfer. (How bad? Let's just say it never even occurred to me to bring clubs!) It was a wonderful opportunity to support the Pro Bono Referral Program while seeing a lot of great folks from the NH Bar - many of them serious golfers and many not."
- Brigette Siff Holmes, Franklin Pierce Law Center, Concord
- "The tournament supports a great cause. We are lucky to do so playing golf on one of New Hampshire's best courses.
- Tournament Chair Mitchell Jean, LRGHealthcare, Laconia
Since its inception a decade ago, the Quid Pro Bono Golf Tournament has become the Pro Bono Program's major fundraising event. In recent years, net proceeds have ranged from $16,000 to $18,000.
NH Bar members, their friends and business associates are encouraged to join the celebration this year. Exciting contests and select raffle prizes - from overnights at the Mountain View Grand Hotel and Spa and The Inn at Mills Falls to dinner gift certificates at elegant restaurants - are just a few of the enticements to play at the 2003 tournament.
No matter how you slice it, all tournament players win through the camaraderie, old and new; the chance to play a beautiful golf course; and the opportunity to support a worthwhile cause.
