Bar Challenges Validity of Legislature's Dictates to the Bar
ON JULY 31, the New Hampshire Bar Association filed a petition for declaratory relief, asking the NH Supreme Court to review the constitutionality of HB 175, which requires the Bar to hold membership referenda and imposes greater limits on the Bar's legislative activities.
See page 4 for a position paper by NHBA President Russell Hilliard with background on the issue and details on the Bar's objections to the bill, which was signed into law earlier in July. To view the petition filed with the NH Supreme Court, visit News Releases.
