AG Peter Heed is Canoeing National Champ
NH ATTORNEY GENERAL Peter W. Heed recently won the national championship in the masters' division doubles competition of the National Canoe and Kayaking Championships held in Warren, PA. Heed, 53, and Jim Bauer, 56, of Spokane, Wash., completed the 12-mile-long competition course on the Allegheny River - which featured white water, downstream and upstream paddling - in 1 hour, 33 minutes and 19 seconds to take the national title.
Heed is an accomplished canoe racer. He won several medals as a member of the U.S. canoe racing team and has competed internationally. He has also served on governing bodies for the sport.
Heed said that because of his duties as attorney general - a post to which he was appointed in March - he has not been able to train as much as he'd like to in recent months, so his winning the national championship is an even more notable accomplishment.
