Grafton, Cheshire 'Spirit' Award Winners Named

THE NH SUPREME Court has named Kimberly P. Wyman, who has supervised the criminal department at Cheshire County Superior Court for 13 years, and Roselma T. Tucker, the deputy clerk of Grafton County Superior Court, as the latest winners of the "Sprit of the Judiciary Award." The award recognizes outstanding court employees and one award per year is made in each county.

Wyman "exemplifies the spirit of the judiciary in her work ethic, citizenship, sense of humor and family values," said Cheshire County Superior Court Clerk Barbara A. Hogan in nominating Wyman for the Spirit Award. "She is a true team player."

As supervisor of the criminal department, Wyman schedules cases, works with local attorneys and members of the public, oversees case files and arranges for transportation of prisoners in and out of the courthouse. In 2001, she initiated an effort to examine and remove documents, exhibits and equipment that had accumulated in Cheshire County Superior Court over a period of years. "It was a dirty and time-consuming task requiring research, muscle and many days of hard work," said Hogan. "Completing the project improved the space in which we all work."

Hogan added that Wyman is always willing to assist other departments when needed. "Even when your job is done, it's a matter of looking around to see what you can do for a co-worker to make his or her job easier," Wyman said.

Wyman lives in Chesterfield with her husband Leon and 16-year-old grandson Will. She joined the court system in 1988 as a part-time court assistant in Sullivan County Probate Court before transferring to Cheshire Superior. She is also studying to be a nurse.

Grafton County Superior Court Clerk Roselma T. Tucker received the Spirit Award for her 25 years of dedicated service to the judicial branch.

Tucker began her career with the court system in 1978 and was appointed deputy clerk in 1983. She has also worked as supervisor of Grafton County's criminal department.

Grafton County Superior Court Clerk Robert B. Muh, who nominated Tucker for the award, described her as a person of "uncompromising integrity and uncommonly sound judgment" whose guidance is invaluable in the most stressful situations.

"Rose is a consummate professional for whom no problem is too great. She leaves no stone unturned in her efforts to provide competent, caring and responsive customer service to attorneys, litigants and members of the public alike. She motivates her co-workers through her personal example of teamwork and a consistently cheerful, positive attitude," Muh said.

In addition to managing the daily caseload and working with judges in the courtroom at Grafton Superior, Tucker serves as the overall office manager, oversees the jury management and indigent counsel programs, and handles a wide range of specialty cases falling outside the scope of the criminal, marital or civil/equity departments. Her daily activities include constant telephone and personal contact with attorneys, pro se litigants and members of the general public.

One of the biggest challenges in Tucker's work, she said, is dealing with citizens who represent themselves in court. "Even if you can't actually give them an answer, you can try to give them a little direction on how to proceed," she said. "Sometimes they just want someone to listen."

Tucker has lived in Grafton County since 1978. In addition to her responsibilities in the court system, she enjoys skiing, traveling, attending her son's sporting events and following NASCAR.
