Local Referral Marathons a Success

By:

Pro Bono on the Road

ON AUG. 27, Christine Rockefeller, a partner with the firm of Burns, Bryant, Hinchey, Cox & Rockefeller, PA, hosted a Seacoast Area Pro Bono Referral Marathon. Local attorneys made scores of calls to their colleagues requesting help in assisting low-income clients needing advice and/or representation with consumer and family law matters. Within three hours, 17 clients were matched with volunteer attorneys!

Kudos to Anthony Hartnett, Kay Oppenheimer, John Ahlgren, Kenneth Murphy and Christine Rockefeller and the entire staff at Burns, Bryant, Hinchey, Cox & Rockefeller for their good humor and perseverance in referring these cases. And, thank you to the many generous volunteers throughout Strafford and Rockingham Counties for responding to the calls during this recent referral marathon.

The Pro Bono staff extends its sincere appreciation to all the dedicated volunteers who represent low-income individuals and families. You indeed deserve our recognition and thanks for the service you provide to all NH communities.

Also last month, Assistant Pro Bono Coordinator Cindee Carter traveled to Cheshire County to hold an on-site referral marathon at the office of Gregory T. Martin, the Cheshire County representative on the NHBA Board of Governors. Assisted by Ted Parent and Glenn Smith, all of the cases on the waiting list for Cheshire were placed.

Several other referral marathons are in the works for this fall, including a Franklin Pierce Law Center referral marathon, according to Pro Bono Coordinator Carolann Wooding. "Referral marathons in general have helped move a large number of cases over the years," said Wooding. "Even though attorneys have it tough sometimes in trying to refer cases, there is no substitute for peer-to-peer contact."

Pamela Dodge is assistant coordinator for the Pro Bono Referral Program and coordinator of the Domestic Violence Emergency (DOVE) Project.

Pro Bono Clients Say Thanks

"My attorney helped me to provide a safe and healthy environment for my daughter to grow up in. I can never thank him enough."

"We want to thank our attorney for his kindness. He is an honest, reliable person. I appreciate the legal help. We thank you, Pro Bono. You made us happy. God bless you."
