First Circuit Proposes Local Rules Change, Increases Fees
THE UNITED STATES Court of Appeals for the First Circuit proposes amendment to Local Rule 35(a), regarding ordering a hearing or rehearing en banc. Text of the proposed amendment can be found at www.ca1.uscourts.gov, under "What's New?"
The First Circuit Court of Appeals invites public comment on the proposed amendment. Comments should be sent by Nov. 17, 2003 to:

Also, on Sept. 23, 2003, the Judicial Conference of the United States approved a change to the Miscellaneous Fee Schedule, raising the cost of filing an appeal in a United States Circuit Court of Appeals.
Effective Nov. 1, 2003, the cost for filing a notice of appeal increased to a total of $255, from $105. The costs are broken down as follows: $250 as specified in the revised Miscellaneous Fee Schedule, and the $5 fee required by 28 U.S.C. § 1917. These fees are payable to the district court clerk when the notice of appeal is filed. The filing fee for an original proceeding before the First Circuit, i.e., a Petition for Review of an agency decision, or a mandamus, is $250, payable to the First Circuit clerk.
