Peter J. Parhiala, who practiced law in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, died Oct. 11 at Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, Mass., at the age of 38.

Parhiala was born March 15, 1965, the son of Dr. Everett W. and Lorraine (Rosholt) Parhiala. He grew up in Salem, NH, graduating from Woodbury Junior High School and Salem High School, where he was an outstanding athlete and student.

He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point for two years and graduated cum laude with a degree in history from the University of New Hampshire. He earned his law degree from the Massachusetts School of Law and was admitted to the Mass. Bar in 1995 and to the NH Bar in 1997.

For the past several years, he operated the Parhiala Law Firm in Windham, which concentrated on estate planning, business law and bankruptcy. He was a former member of the Rockingham County Bar Association.

Parhiala was a member of the Triumphant Cross Lutheran Church in Salem, where he was a past council member, and of the Greater Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Kimberly (Taylor) Parhiala of Derry; a son, Eric, of Derry; twin daughters, Kara and Kristy, of Derry; his mother, of Salem; brothers Everett W. Parhiala, Jr. of Lexington, Mass., and Thomas E. Parhiala of Salem; sisters Susan L. Parhiala of Methuen, Mass., and Lisa A. Miller of Haverhill, Mass.

He was predeceased by a son, Sean Matthew Parhiala, who died in 1992, and by his father, Dr. Everett Parhiala.
