Ronald B. Willoughby
RONALD B. WILLOUGHBY died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004, in Boston, following a period of failing health.
He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the son of Leon and Marguerite (Hardy) Willoughby, graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and received a degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University College of Engineering. He earned his law degree at the University of Maine School of Law.
Willoughby was originally employed as an electrical engineer by the General Electric Corporation, but after completing law school, he worked as a patent attorney with Sanders Associates in Nashua, then later entered into private practice in Dover. He belonged to both the Maine and New Hampshire Bar Associations.
A longtime member and past president of the Dover Rotary Club, he was also active in Durham community affairs, past chair of the Durham Conservation Commission, and a member of the Mount Vernon Galilean Masonic Lodge in Malden, Mass. He was a coach with the Oyster River Youth Association and an avid supporter of youth sports.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Darleen (Wilcox) Willoughby of Durham; one son, Christopher B. Willoughy of Durham; one sister, Roxanne Carter of Malden; and two cousins, Jeffrey Delaney of Woodsville, and Steve Delaney of Manchester.
Services were held on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Manchester. Donations may be made to the Charles E. Holt Hockey Scholarships Fund, c/o UNH Alumni Foundation, 9 Edgewood Road, Durham, N.H. 03824.
