Undaunted by Showers, Pro Bono Golfers Shine

The winning foursome of the 2004 Quid Pro Bono tournament — (left to right) Hon. Michael Garner, Arthur O’Neil, Jr., Ned Mulligan and Mitchell Jean — took home the princely sum of $75 each for low team score.
BY LATE AFTERNOON, the skies cleared and glorious weather broke out for the 2004 Quid Pro Bono Golf Tournament. A Belknap County team once again took top honors with a 60 score. But the real winners, of course, were the clients and the attorneys who help them through the NHBA Pro Bono Referral Program.
The tournament, through its entry fees, sponsorships, and revenue earned from raffles and drawings held during the day, is the Pro Bono Program’s largest fundraising event. It receives major funding from the NH Bar Foundation’s IOLTA program and area United Ways, and relies on the fundraiser to provide significant additional support.
Last year, nearly 900 new cases were referred to NH attorneys through the Pro Bono Program. The program also provides training, mentoring and other support services for attorneys handling these important cases.
The results of the tournament are as follows:
The lowest scoring team was comprised of Arthur G. O’Neil, Jr., Mitchell Jean, Hon. Michael Garner, and Ned Mulligan (60); followed by Hon. Arthur Bean, Russ Turcott, Peter Hyatt and Bob Mielcarz (63); close behind in third was the foursome of Rodney Stark, Ron Merino, Rick Manburg and Terry Wheelock (64). The top mixed team, carding a 65, was comprised of David Heath, Maryse Wirbal, Bill Hunt and Ed Reichert. Wirbal and Jean had the longest drives, while the closest-to-the-pin winners were retired Chief Justice David Brock (4 feet, 7 inches) and Sherri Jankowski (10 feet, 11 inches) were the closest to the pin winners.
Coming into the clubhouse with the coveted highest score was the team of Charla Stevens, Patti Blanchette, Eleanor Dahar and Jeannine McCoy.
