Manchester Bar Honors Dort Bigg With Career Award
MANCHESTER ATTORNEY Dort S. Bigg was presented with the Manchester Bar Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award last month.
One of Bigg’s partners at the law firm of Wiggin & Nourie, William S. Orcutt, described Bigg’s long and distinguished career as a trial lawyer and his unstinting contribution of time and effort as a mentor to many new New Hampshire lawyers.
Bigg’s tenacity and resourcefulness as an advocate, Orcutt said, was also reflected in his colorful pastime as a globetrotting big-game hunter, and his general zest for life.
Bigg, seated next to his wife Meredith and many members of his family, beamed at the presentation of the award. Upon taking the podium to make remarks, he responded with a characteristic, "This is as good as it gets."
Bigg, who turns 71 next month, was admitted to the Bar in 1955 after graduating from Dartmouth College and receiving his law degree from Boston University Law School, where he also served as editor-in-chief of its law review. He served in the NH Attorney General’s Office from 1957 to 1959, and then joined the law firm that became known as Wiggin & Nourie, where he remains a senior partner.
Among other involvements, Bigg served on the Professional Conduct Committee and as chair of the NH Ballot Law Commission. Among professional achievements, he is a Fellow of the American College of Trial lawyers and was admitted to the International Society of Barristers.
