In Memoriam ~ Cattani, Greelish
Louis J. Cattani
Louis J. Cattani died from cancer at his home in Newbury on May 18, 2004. Cattani, the son of Louis and Louise Cattani, was born in Brooklyn on Jan. 28, 1948. He graduated from Wagner College, Staten Island, in 1969 and then joined the Peace Corps, serving as a volunteer in Malaysia. Upon leaving the Peace Corps, Cattani traveled extensively in Southeast Asia and the South Pacific; in 1972 he hitchhiked across Australia from Sydney to Perth.
Cattani attended Vermont Law School in Royalton and was the first editor-in-chief of the Vermont Law Review. After graduating in 1977, he became Deputy States Attorney for Caledonia County, later practicing law in both Vermont and New Hampshire; he specialized in trial work and retired in 2003.
Lou enjoyed working in the theater and had both lead and supporting roles in a number of plays with the Old Church Theater in Bradford and the Tabor Valley Players. Over the years he organized many mock trial programs for senior classes at Oxbow School and at Blue Mountain Union School. An excellent bowler, an accomplished chess player and an avid golfer, he enjoyed hiking and kayaking—and in later years, wrote and published several short stories.
Cattani is survived by his wife, Jonnie; two sons, Joseph and Charles; two granddaughters, Veronica and Lilyanna; his mother Louise; his sister, Veronica Basker; his daughter-in-law, a nephew and niece; and many relatives and in-laws.
