New Cheshire County Superior Court Clerk Chosen
BARBARA A. HOGAN, currently clerk of Coos County Superior Court, has been appointed clerk of Cheshire County Superior Court to replace Stillman D. Rogers, who will retire on May 17 after nearly 23 years in that position. (See an article about Rogers retiring in the April 6, 2001 issue of Bar News.)
Hogan has been the clerk in Coos for 10 years. She said that she applied for the Cheshire clerkship because "it’s time for new challenges, a change of pace."
"We’ve made some substantial changes here (in Coos) in the 10 years. I think I’ve gone about as far as I can here," said Hogan.
Hogan said she will miss her deputy clerk, Lana Lesperance (the latest Spirit of the Judiciary Award winner, see right) and the rest of the Coos County Superior Court staff. "They are unqualifiedly the best," she said.
Hogan said she is looking forward to working in the larger Cheshire County Superior Court, to learning about a new community and "looking at the court with fresh eyes." She said she will approach the job with an eye toward "what I can do to help expedite and streamline the process in the court."
Hogan is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and was admitted to the NH Bar in 1987. Prior to becoming clerk in Coos County, she worked in the Nashua District Court, doing probation and administration work in the juvenile sector, and then went into private practice in Nashua. Her areas of practice included bank regulation and compliance and general practice.
Hogan will take office in Cheshire as soon as a replacement is found for her in Coos County. Walter Murphy, chief justice of the NH Superior Court, has appointed a committee of justices to review applicants to succeed Hogan. Until her replacement is found, the court’s deputy clerk, James Peale, will perform the duties of clerk of Cheshire County Superior Court.
