FOUR NEW HAMPSHIRE lawyers were honored recently for their pro bono work, assisting the families of September 11 terror victims. David M. Gottesman of Gottesman & Hollis in Nashua; Jennifer A. Lemire of Watson & Lemire in Portsmouth; Scott H. Harris of McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in Manchester; and Michael P. Rainboth of Coughlin, Rainboth, Murphy & Lown in Portsmouth were honored for their participation in Trial Lawyers Care at the national summer convention of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) and at the New Hampshire Trial Lawyers Association’s (NHTLA) 27th Annual Dinner. The volunteer program, one of the largest pro bono legal services programs in U.S. history, was developed by ATLA to ensure free legal assistance for the terrorist victims’ families.
"We are proud to have four of our members—three of whom are board members—who have devoted numerous hours to New Hampshire families devastated by the tragedy of September 11," said NHTLA President Thomas Craig. "These lawyers set aside the demands of their lives to make an extraordinary contribution to our country. Our organization owes them a great debt of gratitude for their fine work."
Also at the NHTLA meeting, Craig, accepted the gavel from outgoing President Timothy C. Coughlin, thanking him for his service and dedication during the difficult legislative and public education battles of the year.
Presentation of awards and recognitions was another highlight of the evening. Retired NH Supreme Court Chief Justice David A. Brock received the Civil Justice Award as a tribute for his many years of commitment to the justice system in New Hampshire. Michael S. McGrath was given the Board of Governors award for his service as golf tournament chair and as co-chair of the Public Education Committee. Executive Director Jennifer Farrell received the President’s Award as thanks for her efforts to improve the organization and assist the president.
