Malcolm and Susan McLane
Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Malcolm McLane at home with his wife, Susan McLane.

MALCOLM MCLANE will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Business & Industry Association (BIA) at the organization's annual dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

The award recognizes those who have demonstrated a commitment to leadership in their profession, their local community and the state of New Hampshire. McLane practiced law at Orr & Reno, based in Concord, from 1952 to 1994 and continues as of counsel to the firm to this day. He served on the Concord City Council for 20 years and was mayor of the city from 1970-76. He ran for governor as an Independent in 1972, and served as a member of the NH Executive Council from 1977 to 1982.

McLane served and still serves as director or trustee for a number of organizations including the Wildcat Mountain Corporation, the Society for the Protection of NH Forests, the Appalachian Mountain Club, the Capitol Center for the Arts, and the Concord Community Music School.

Born in Manchester in 1924, McLane was educated at St. Paul's School, Dartmouth College, Oxford University and Harvard College. He flew 73 combat missions in Europe during WWII. His plane was shot down during the Battle of the Bulge and he ended the war as a POW in Germany.

He lives in Concord with his wife, Susan, a former NH state senator who had a distinguished 25-year political career herself.

For more details on the dinner, or to register to attend, call the BIA office at (603) 224-5388.
