Douglas Named Chair of Judicial Pension Board
On Oct. 13, Gov. Benson named attorney Charles S. Douglas of Concord as chair of the Judicial Retirement Plan Board of Trustees, which will administer the new judicial pension plan enacted by the legislature. The plan takes effect in January 2005. Douglas, a former judge of both the superior and Supreme Courts, left the bench in 1985 to return to private practice.
"This plan takes an unfounded pay-as-you-go obligation of the state and creates a bond issue of $43 million to be invested for present and future pensions for judges and for the surviving spouses of judges," said Douglas. "We have an excellent board with a lot of work to do in the months ahead, and I am pleased to be able to take on this challenge."
The board, which is composed of volunteers, comprises two legislators, three judges and two members of the public.
