Split Verdict on Med-Mal Referenda
TORT REFORM MEASURES aiming at capping awards or legal fees in medical malpractice cases were the subject of public votes in several states on Nov. 2.
Voters in Florida and Nevada easily passed so-called "tort reform" measures aimed at reducing medical malpractice insurance costs, while similar measures were defeated in Oregon and Wyoming.
In Louisiana, voters passed an amendment that enshrines every state resident’s right to hunt and fish, and South Carolina voters, by a 3-2 margin, downed a law that had forced restaurant and bar owners to only serve liquor from miniature bottles.
