"I believe this was the largest number of people we have ever had at a New Lawyers Reception," said NHBA Assistant Executive Director Denice DeStefano, referring to the turnout at Franklin Pierce Law Center on the evening of Nov. 18. More than 80 RSVP’d for the event, scheduled to welcome the 111 new members sworn into the Bar on Oct. 26.
Attorneys, judges —including three members of the NH Supreme Court — and officers of the NH Bar Association joined the members of the committee in welcoming new lawyers into the organization—and into the congenial fellowship of Bar membership. In addition to the most recent new admittees, Bar members admitted within the last two years also received personal invitations.
"The New Lawyers Committee deserves a lot of credit for making the party such a success," said Melissa Childs, NHBA Member Services Coordinator and committee liaison. Childs worked closely with committee chair Jennifer Parent and with attorney Jaye Rancourt. "Jaye was responsible for getting our great door prizes," remarked Childs, "Andy Meirins, Jim O’Rourke and Mary Sheffer were a big help, too."

In her welcome speech, Parent spoke of the services provided by the Association and the New Lawyers Committee. There are many practice aids available to new attorneys; some of them were displayed at the gathering, such as the Member Resource Guide, the manual "Traps for the Unwary" and the Casemaker guidebook.
In his words of welcome, Jim Gleason, current president of the Bar Association, stressed the importance of becoming involved. Many new lawyers try to "go it alone" when there is help available from both fellow attorneys and from the staff of the Bar Association. It is the hope of the New Lawyers Committee and the Association that new attorneys will take advantage of these avenues of assistance, he said.
