Teaching Not Easier,
but More Rewarding, Say
Two former Lawyers

Two former attorneys, Stephanie Ferro and Mary Ellen McGorry, have become high school teachers, Ferro at Manchester's Central High and McGorry at West High. Both love their new careers. "It's draining, but it's a wonderfully rewarding profession," says McGorry. Ferro agrees. "It's serious, but there's a light-heartedness to teaching."

Ferro says she wouldn't discourage anybody from going to law school, but that she didn't like the business part of being a lawyer. She teaches civics and Law and Ethics, so keeps her hand in a bit with her former profession. McGorry teaches American and British literature. "I could not have made a better choice. I've found my place," she says. "There's not been one day when I've gotten up and said, 'Ugh, I have to go to work today.'"
