Former NHBF Chair Kevin Devine Named Honorary Fellow
The New Hampshire Bar Foundation will recognize attorney Kevin C. Devine, of Devine & Nyquist, Manchester, as an Honorary Fellow at its annual Fellows Reception, to be held in conjunction with the NHBA Midyear Meeting Feb. 18 at the Quality Inn & Wayfarer Convention Center, Bedford. The Foundation Fellows Reception will take place from 5-6 p.m.
This select honor is reserved for a small number of individuals who have distinguished themselves through their exceptional professional and community service.
Devine served on the Foundation's Board of Directors for many years and as Chair of the Foundation Board from 1994 to 1997. According to Lucy Crichton, former executive director of the NH Bar Foundation, "Kevin was a real visionary who used his energies to expand the Foundation's philanthropic capacity." Charles DeGrandpre, former chair of the Bar Foundation, adds, "Kevin was so instrumental in helping the Bar Foundation get to a newer and higher level. He was the one to get us to think out of the box."
Under Kevin's leadership, the Bar Foundation expanded its fundraising initiatives by establishing the "Justice Society." Kevin was dedicated to building the Justice Society's Charter Membership by sharing his vision with a group of dedicated supporters to create endowed justice funds through lifetime and testamentary gifts.
Devine also focused on IOLTA revenue enhancement during his term as chair. In 1995, the Foundation undertook a renewed effort to seek ways to maximize IOLTA revenue by encouraging increased support from IOLTA banks. Crichton said, "Kevin was insightful and fully engaged in this process." During his tenure, the NH Bar Foundation received national recognition by creating several successful partnerships with key New Hampshire banks leading to significantly higher IOLTA revenue. Ten years later, the IOLTA program continues to benefit from these first partnerships.
"We are very pleased to be honoring Kevin," said Bar Foundation Board Chair Paul Chant. "Attorney Devine has been a consistent supporter of the Bar Foundation and its goals throughout his career."
