In Memoriam: Judith P. Newcombe
Judith Lea "Jude" Newcombe died unexpectedly Jan. 31, 2005, at Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Lebanon. She was 62. Born in Minneapolis, Newcombe had lived in Concord for more than 20 years.
She was a graduate of Franklin Pierce Law School and was admitted to the NH Bar in 1991. Before becoming a lawyer, Judith worked for many years as an educator. She was a well-known teacher and coach and played an important role in founding the Exercise and Sports Sciences Program at Colby-Sawyer College.
At the time of her death, she was a staff attorney with the Division of Youth and Families in Manchester. She had also worked with the Merrimack County Attorney's Office and was a supporter of issues to combat violence against women.
"Jude" was also deeply involved in the musical life of her community. In addition to being a member of Songweavers and of Women Singing Out, she was a percussionist and performed with Pangae, a drum and dance troupe.
Survivors include two sisters, Karen Patten of Dayton, Ohio and Linda Lamphier of Phoenix, Arizona; a brother, Bill Patten, also of Arizona-and many, many caring friends. Memorial services will be held at the Concord Community Music School on Wall Street in Concord at 2:30 on February 20.
In memory of our colleague, Judith Newcombe, the New Hampshire Bar Association's Board of Governors has contributed to the New Hampshire Bar Foundation, 112 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301.
