59 Join the New Hampshire Bar at Mid-Year Swearing-in

AT A SPECIAL session of the NH Supreme Court on May 30, 59 lawyers were admitted to the New Hampshire Bar. As is characteristic of the mid-year swearing-in, this group of new admittees is a geographically diverse group that includes many attorneys already admitted to practice in other jurisdictions.

Many of the Bar members sworn in last month had taken the February Bar exam. The new admittees were welcomed to the Bar by the Supreme Court’s newest associate justice, James E. Duggan. NHBA President-Elect Peter E. Hutchins and Stephen Tober, the NH delegate to the American Bar Association, also addressed the group.

Nineteen new admittees did not disclose an affiliation or used the same address for work and home, indicating either an intention to practice law as a sole practitioner or that they are still seeking employment.

Twenty of the new admittees are employed in private practice outside NH, including 16 from Massachusetts; seven are employed by NH law firms. Four gave corporate addresses, although it wasn’t clear whether all were employed in legal departments, and seven reported employment with government or public sector law agencies. Two new admittees are judicial clerks.

Suffolk Law School graduates were the most numerous among the new admittees (11), followed by graduates from Franklin Pierce (7), Boston College and Massachusetts School of Law (4 each), and New England School of Law (3).

Sixty-one percent of the new admittees are males. Twenty-two of the 59 are age 31 or younger; 15 are 32 to 41 years of age, and 14 are 41 or older and eight are over 50. Forty-five reported e-mail addresses. Forty are members of at least one other bar, while eight are members of two or more bar associations in addition to NH.
