Ellen Arnold, Eleanor Dahar Vie for Bar Leadership

Ellen L. Arnold and Eleanor Wm. Dahar are the candidates for 2005-2006 Vice-President of the NHBA Board of Governors.

Previously with McLane, Graf, Raulerson & Middleton in Manchester, Arnold now serves as Associate General Counsel for Dartmouth College. She is a graduate of Franklin Pierce Law School and has been a member of the NH Bar since 1977. Arnold is Special Justice of the Henniker District Court and a Grafton County Family Division Justice; she is also a member of the NH Bar Foundation Board.

Dahar, a graduate of Boston College, has been a member of the NHBA since 1988. She is a partner in the Dahar Professional Association in Manchester. Dahar currently is NHBA Secretary. Last year, she completed a three-year term as an at-large member of the NHBA Board of Governors. She is also a member of the NH Bar Foundation Board of Directors and the Manchester Bar Association.

Whichever candidate wins, that person will be in line to become the fourth woman to head the Bar Association. (By tradition, the Bar vice president is nominated for President-Elect the following year. According to the NHBA bylaws, the President-Elect automatically assumes the NHBA presidency in the following year.) Patti Blanchette (1992-93), the Hon. Susan B. Carbon (1993-94), and Martha Van Oot (2002-2003) also served as president of the NHBA.

Richard McNamara, the 2004-05 Vice President, has been nominated by the Board as President-Elect for the upcoming Bar year. Richard Y. Uchida will move from President-Elect to President for the 2005-6 Bar year, and will take office, succeeding James Gleason, at the conclusion of the NHBA Annual Meeting June 23-25, 2005 at The Balsams Grand Resort & Hotel, Dixville Notch.

Candidates' biographies and statements will be posted at www.nhbar.org and will be published in the March 18, 2005 issue of Bar News.

The ballots will be mailed in mid-March and are due on or before April 15, 2005. For information about the BOG election process, contact Assistant Executive Director Denice DeStefano at ddestefano@nhbar.org.
