Stephen Woodbury President of "Dollars for Scholars" Program
Stephen Woodbury, a manager at the Internal Revenue Service in Andover, Mass. and a part-time research/appellate attorney based in Salem, NH, has become president of the Salem-Windham, NH "Dollars for Scholars" program, which will award over 40 scholarships to high school seniors in May, 2005.
Bruce Dorner Quoted in ABA Journal
Bruce Dorner, Londonderry, will be doing a telephone CLE for the ABA. He is quoted prominently in the February 2005 issue of the Journal in an article titled "New Test for DUI Defense" by Margaret Tebo. He said, in part: "Yes, there needs to be punishment, but taking the license for 90 days effectively means a whole family won't have food on the table." Soudabeh Tahmassebipour Appointed Court Liaison
The Supreme Court has appointed NH Public Defender Soudabeh Tahmassebipour as the court's liaison to the National Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts. Judge Broderick requested help to identify an appropriate liaison, and Soudie was selected from among new leaders who participated in the Fall Conference sponsored by the Bar Association.
Timothy Caldwell Chairs LEAVE A LEGACY NH-VT
Timothy Caldwell, Lebanon, NH, is chair of the LEAVE A LEGACY NH-VT Partners. LEAVE A LEGACY is a nationwide public awareness campaign conducted and coordinated by the National Committee on Planned Giving and sponsored by local planned giving councils. Since 80-90% of Americans make charitable contributions during their lives, but less than 10% make charitable gifts through wills or estate plans, the goal of the organization is to increase charitable legacy giving across the nation. Chynoweth Appointed to Safety Review Board
Graham J. Chynoweth, an associate with the regional law firm of Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green PA, has been appointed to the City of Manchester's Safety Review Board. The Board, composed of seven members, investigates and conducts hearings on accidents involving city employees or property, works with other city departments to help prevent future accidents, and monitors city departments to ensure that appropriate safety regulations are in place and that there is a process for their enforcement. Mr. Chynoweth also serves on the Steering Committee for the Manchester Young Professionals Network and contributes as a freelance writer for the Hippo Press.
John Anthony Simmons Argues Constitutionality of Recall Elections
John Anthony Simmons, Sr. of Hampton successfully argued on behalf of the Town of Seabrook that its Town charter provision authorizing recall elections for town officials was unconstitutional. Judge Kenneth McHugh issued a nine-page Rockingham Superior Court Order (Docket 04-E-361) on March 7, 2005, which was based largely on constitutional grounds, statutory construction and preemption.
Bruce Harwood Appointed to U.S. Bankruptcy Court
Attorney Bruce Harwood, a partner in the law firm of Sheehan, Phinney, Bass + Green PA and Chair of its Bankruptcy and Insolvency Group, has been appointed to the Panel of Chapter 7 Trustees for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Hampshire. Mr. Harwood has consistently been named in the Bankruptcy Law Section of The Best Lawyers in America.
Olga Bogdanov of the Boston firm Murtha Cullina LLP was also named to the Panel.
David A. Young Assists Department of Employment Security
David A. Young, Young Law Office, Claremont, former state representative, is a recently returned Iraqi war veteran. He has been brought into the NH Department of Employment Security by Commissioner Richard Brothers to help work on some of the department's legislative initiatives.
