Souhegan, Great Brook are Mock Trial Champions
In an exciting countdown exhibition of their skills, the Mock Trial finalists met on April 9 at Hillsborough County Superior Court North courthouse.
High school finalists were teams representing Bishop Guertin, Milford, Souhegan and St. Thomas Aquinas high schools; middle schools in the finals were: Alton, Great Brook, Milford and St. Patrick's.
Following two preliminary rounds, the final round pitted three-time state champ Milford High School against Souhegan High (Amherst), with middle schools Alton and Great Brook (Antrim) facing off. In close final decisions, Souhegan and Great Brook emerged as state champions.
The Souhegan team competes at the Mock Trial Nationals to be held May 5-7 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The team was presented with a $1,000 check by David Snyder, executive director of the NH Bar Foundation to assist with competition expenses, but the team has many thousands more to raise over the next few weeks. Donations are gratefully accepted and should be sent to the team's coach, Attorney James Hobbs, Hobbs & Associates LPA, 10 East Pearl Street, Nashua 03060.
Volunteer Recognition
In the next issue of Bar News, the many Bar members who served on the Mock Trial Committee and as presiding and scoring judges will be recognized for their contributions to the Mock Trial competition. Without the dedicated and enthusiastic support of these volunteers, the Mock Trial competition could not take place.
