Supreme Court Staff Honored at Annual Meeting

THE NEW HAMPSHIRE Bar Association has presented a certificate of appreciation to the staff of the NH Supreme Court. The award honors the behind-the-scenes professionals and support personnel at the court as "unheralded public servants whose dedication has been an essential component of the system’s continued service to the citizens of New Hampshire."

Outgoing NHBA President Gregory D. Robbins presented the certificate to New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice David A. Brock at the Bar’s Annual Meeting on June 22. "The events of the past year had to have been very difficult for the court staff, but you would never know it from how they handled themselves and their responsibilities," Robbins said. "The people of New Hamsphire have been well served by the dedicated men and women who work for the Supreme Court, and it more than fitting that they receive recognition for their dedication and hard work."

At the Annual Meeting, Brock made the following remarks in accepting the award on behalf of the staff:

"I am pleased to be here this evening and honored to accept this thoughtful gesture of appreciation on behalf of the court. I know they will be surprised and proud. These are hard working, dedicated state employees, not people who seek out attention, not ones who ever want to read their names in the newspaper. These employees showed unwavering devotion to their jobs during the most difficult of times in our court, they did their work, every day, despite the storm of scrutiny and criticism that surrounded them for months and months. Each demonstrated extraordinary fortitude, and loyalty, for which I will always be personally grateful.

At the court, we have worked very hard since we resumed our full strength and we have moved forward. The fair and efficient administration of justice is a solemn duty given to us by the people of New Hampshire. Our determination to carry out that responsibility is stronger than ever. I say to all of you in this room tonight that we must focus on what is ahead of us, not the past.

We have had our common ground, our differences, our supportive moments and our hard feelings. These are the inevitable byproducts of controversy and of the passionate feelings that come with the pursuit of justice.

But as judges and lawyers we have always shared one ultimate allegiance – to the law and the constitution. That pledge is what ignites our energies and gives us the strength to carry on, even when it seems that everything is against us. That is what gives us our direction in the face of adversity. And that must set our course, above all else, as we look to the future.

Thank you very much."

On Monday, June 25, Brock gathered the staff for a brief reception at which he presented them the award.
