Eleanor Dahar Elected NHBA Vice President

Eleanor Wm. Dahar, of Dahar Professional Association in Manchester, was elected NHBA Vice President, outpolling Ellen Arnold, an attorney in the general counsel's office at Dartmouth College and a part-time District Court judge.

More than 1,300 NHBA members cast ballots by the April 15 deadline. The vice president's post was the only contested position.

At the conclusion of the 2005 NHBA Annual Meeting, Richard Y. Uchida will take office as President, Richard B. McNamara as President-Elect, and Dahar as Vice President. James D. Gleason remains on the Board of Governors as Immediate Past President.

Dahar, currently NHBA Secretary, joined the NHBA Board of Governors in June 2001 as an at-large member of the Board. She has long been active as a member of the Manchester Bar Association and had served as its president.

She participated in the NHBA Leadership Retreat held last fall at Waterville Valley and said she hopes to help follow up on ideas generated at that event. (See related article by Richard Uchida on page 4). Efforts to broaden members' involvement in the NHBA and to make the Association more relevant to newer practitioners are important. "We need to do more to listen to younger members of the Bar," Dahar said.

During the past few years Dahar has attended local and county bar meetings throughout the state, a practice she intends to continue in order to meet other lawyers and hear their perspectives on the legal profession in NH.

Dahar, admitted to the Bar in 1988, is a lifelong Manchester-area resident who is in practice with her father, Victor Dahar, Sr., and her two brothers, Victor, Jr., and Saheed. She attended Wheaton College and obtained her law degree from Boston College Law School. Her trial practice is a varied one, including commercial litigation, personal injury, divorce and bankruptcy.

Expressing gratitude for the support received from the membership by her and the other candidate, Ellen Arnold, Dahar said she looks forward to the continued involvement of Arnold, who is active in both the Association and the Bar Foundation.

Also taking office for the coming year will be Gretchen L. Witt, as Secretary and Robert R. Howard, III, as Treasurer. Witt is chief of the Civil Division at the US Attorney's Office, District of NH. She is completing the last year of a three-year term as a governor-at-large. Robert R. Howard, III, is a sole practitioner of Henniker who primarily handles transactional matters.

Taking office as governors-at-large will be newcomer Alexander Walker of Devine Millimet and John B. Andrews, executive director of the NH Municipal Association, who was re-elected to a second at-large term.

Serving two-year terms will be newly-elected county governors:

Mary Louise Caffrey (Cheshire), a partner in the Faulkner, Freund, Worthen & Caffrey law firm in Keene, concentrating in real estate, banking, estate planning and probate matters;

Keith W. Clouatre (Coös), an assistant Coös County Attorney admitted to the NH Bar in 2001;

Gregory M. Eaton, elected to a full two-year term representing Grafton County after serving the last year of an unexpired term, a partner in the Aten Clayton & Eaton law firm in Littleton;

Andrew M. Mierins (Merrimack), a graduate of the Franklin Pierce law Center, admitted to the Bar in 2003 and practicing with the law firm of Crisp & Richmond in Concord. Mierins has been involved in the NHBA New Lawyers and the Law-Related Education committees.

Robert T.Mittelholzer(Rockingham), of Mittelholzer & Dibble firm in Newmarket, previously served on the Board of Governors representing Strafford County. For a number of years, he served the Association as a member of the Fee Dispute Resolution Committee.
