George Bruno Organizes Latvian Delegation Visit
From April 16-23, under a program called Partners for Peace-New Hampshire, 15 civil and military leaders from the Baltic republic participated in a number of workshops throughout New Hampshire. The program was organized by NHBA member George Bruno, a former US Ambassador, in collaboration with the University of New Hampshire, the NH National Guard and the US Department of Defense. The visit demonstrated NH's unique approach in using government, non-profit organizations and the private sector to respond to natural disasters. The group studied responses to earthquake, flood, forest fire or other similar events.
The program is designed to help countries in transition from Soviet states to democratic states. Dainis Turlais, Parliamentary Secretary of Latvia's Ministry of the Interior, led the Latvian delegation. Other members included personnel from the ministries of Justice, Health, Transportation, Defense and State and national leaders in the field of Fire and Rescue.
A group of high-profile Russian emergency management leaders visited New Hampshire in March for a similar program.
