Last-Minute Tips for MCLE Compliance
WITH LESS THAN a month left to report CLE credits for the 2001 reporting year, the NHMCLE Board reminds lawyers that Certificates of Compliance that are incomplete or illegible will have to be returned. This may cause lawyers to miss the filing deadline of August 1. Lawyers filing certificates are encouraged to type or print neatly to avoid confusion about handwriting.
Course information should come from the attendance certificate received at each CLE program. Any sponsor/course abbreviations should be identified fully on the Certificate of Compliance. See the course-listing example on Teaching Credit Worksheet in the Compliance booklet. Certificates with an incomplete side 2 and/or no signature also will be returned.
Carry-over credit you can use this year is listed on line 12 of last year’s certificate. If the numbers in all three columns of line 12 are equal to or greater than the annual requirement figures printed on line 10, you need no further credits to comply. Just follow this year’s instructions on line 8 to report these credits.
If you do not have last year’s certificate, you may request a copy for $5 by sending your NHBA ID number with a check made out to the NHMCLE Board to the office at the Bar Association or by calling the NHMCLE office with a Visa or MasterCard ready for payment. The certificate is then faxed to you in response. Due to the volume of business at this time of year, carry-over credits are not available by telephone.
For those still looking for CLE courses, there are pre-approved program sponsors listed on the Annual Sponsor page of the Rule 53 booklet that also contains your Certificate of Compliance. Contact them directly for their course schedules. The NHBA CLE department is presenting video replay programs this month, which do count toward the live program requirement as a moderator is present to answer questions and lead discussion. Pre-register with Cheryl Moore to reserve a seat.
Lawyers who have special circumstances or those with questions that cannot be answered with the information in the Certificate of Compliance booklet are encouraged to call Lee Jones in the NHMCLE office at the Bar Association, (603) 224-6942 x 122, or contact her by e-mail, ljones@nhbar.org.
