Reception to Kick Off Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship Fund
THE NH WOMEN’S Bar Association and Pierce Law will hold a reception to kick off the campaign to raise funds for the Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship Fund on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Pierce Law. Anyone interested in the scholarship is encouraged to attend to learn more about it.
The new scholarship, a collaborative effort of the New Hampshire Women’s Bar Association and Pierce Law, is named in honor of Agnes Winifred McLaughlin, the first woman admitted to practice law in the state of New Hampshire.
The committee established to raise funds for the scholarship has already received numerous contributions or commitments to the scholarship fund and is halfway to its fundraising goal. Co-chairs of the committee are Pierce Law alumni Sherilyn Young of Rath, Young & Pignatelli and Robert E. Raiche of Nixon, Raiche, Manning, Casinghino & Leach.
"This scholarship was created to attract outstanding women law school candidates to New Hampshire’s only law school, and the response to this worthwhile fundraising effort has been tremendous to date," said Pierce Law alumnus and scholarship committee member Maureen Raiche Manning of Nixon, Raiche, Manning, Casinghino & Leach.
Pierce law student Barbara Bedard of Goffstown was named the first recipient of the Winnie McLaughlin Scholarship. Bedard will receive $5,000 during each of her three years of law school if she continues to meet certain academic standards and criteria. "Ms. Bedard promises to be an excellent addition to the New Hampshire legal community," said Manning.
