NHBA Survey Series Attorneys: Time More a Challenge than Money
By overwhelming numbers, attorneys identified issues related to time management as their main challenge in practicing law today.
The number of respondents citing time demands generally (such as time management and scheduling) as their highest concern were twice the number citing the second-highest concern- financial related issues, such as school-loan burdens, compensation, billable hours, and collecting fees.
Compiling responses that showed up among the top three concerns for attorneys, weighted based on the number of responses numbered 1, 2 or 3, the top ten concerns for attorneys were:
- Time Management
- Money Matters
- Professional Development
- New Business
- Balancing personal/professional lives and reducing stress/maintaining health
- Law firm management/operations
- Competition
- Clients
- Professional satisfaction/job security
- Changing legal culture/erosion of civility in the profession.
The Bar News will provide brief items drawn from the survey results on an ongoing basis. Future installments of the survey are being developed to provide more focused questions on areas of concern or interest to members of the Association. Bar members are encouraged to provide their input and their suggestions. Send your comments to the Editor at dwise@nhbar.org.
