Why did you sign up for LRS? I wanted to give something back, as well as gain new clients. A little more than half of my referrals from LRS are reduced fee cases. I also try to take at least one Pro Bono case a year.
Do you think joining LRS has been profitable? Yes—both personally and professionally. Since I rely chiefly on word-of-mouth to gain new clients, LRS suits me very well. I know that a few “bad apples” can produce the usual lawyer stereotypes—but when you do a good job and are effective, people hear about that, too.
I remember one of my LRS reduced fee cases that went on for about a year. (Most of them don’t take that much time!) It was a custody case involving two young children and their father. It was obvious they should be with their dad, but he wouldn’t have had a chance without a lawyer to go into court with him. As a result of my involvement, he gained custody of his kids—and I will always feel good about the outcome of that case.
Would you recommend LRS to other attorneys? Definitely. LRS can help build your client base and give you the chance to be a positive influence in your community. A well-served client, reduced fee or otherwise, will always remember the good job you did—and tell his or her friends about you. And you get a lot of satisfaction out of helping someone gain true justice, too.
Did you know that attorneys who participated in the full-fee component of LRS earned more than $1million in fees last year through LRS-referred cases? Don’t miss out. Join today by calling or e-mailing LRS Coordinator Robin Brown, 224-6942 or rbrown@nhbar.org.
