Morning Mail: Points in Heaven
Yesterday, while at the Merrimack Superior Court clerk’s office, I saw something nice. When I arrived, a gentleman was helping a woman who had great difficulty with the English language, it not appearing to be her native tongue. He was looking up several numbers for this person and made calls on his cell phone, trying to help this otherwise helpless soul find some relatives who were in the state’s custody.
As he worked with her, it was obvious he was a lawyer who probably hadn’t come to the clerk’s office just to assist somebody who needed it. But he worked with her as diligently as any of us would with a client, and was able to point her in the right direction to solve her problems.
We happened to walk out together. I turned to him and said, “Good job.” I don’t know his name, but was happy to see another member of the bar take of his own time to help someone who needed it. There will never be a public story on his help, no newspaper article, no NH PR piece on lawyers helping others. No recognition. Maybe just points in heaven.
