Russell Carlisle Celebrates 50-year Anniversary
Over the past several months, Bar News has been honoring members of the Bar who have reached their 50-year milestone. Wrapping up these profiles, we conclude with Russell Carisle, of Campton.
Russell Carlisle first became a member of the legal profession in 1955 and spent most of his legal career in Florida; he was admitted to the NH Bar in 1986 and has been a longtime seasonal resident of the Waterville Valley.
While in Florida, Carisle was active in the Florida Bar Foundation and was involved in the establishment of the nation’s first IOLTA program in that state.
Carlisle graduated from George Washington University Law School in June 1955 and was recently honored by the University at this year’s graduation. He was made Grand Marshal of the Old Guard (50-year plus graduates) and as such, led the Old Guard and the academic procession at the graduation ceremony on May 21. At the ceremony he was recognized for his career as a lawyer, which included mention of two former honors: the George Washington University Distinguished Alumni Award in 1995 and the ABA Pro Bono Publico Award in 1986.
Carlisle was given a plaque and a certificate from the Virginia State Bar also, on June 18, 2005, in recognition of his 50 years as a member there. On June 23 the Florida Bar Foundation honored him as past president and 1986 Medal of Honor recipient. He was also recognized by the Florida Bar as a 50-year member. His wife Janet and his two sons, David Carlisle of Miami and Stephen Carlisle of Ft. Lauderdale, both lawyers, were with him.
He became an Honorary Active member of the NH Bar on June 25. Attorney Carlisle continues to practice in Campton.
