Candidates for membership on the IOLTA Grants Committee may be self-nominated or nominated by another participating member. Incumbent Michael Fuerst, who has served on the IOLTA Grants Committee for one term, has expressed his desire to serve another term. Members can serve two consecutive five-year terms. In the event the election is uncontested, the Bar Foundation Board of Directors may appoint the nominee to the Committee. Such is the case with Fuerst, who will now enter his second term.
Fuerst is a partner with the Claremont law firm of Buckley and Zopf where he has practiced since 1987. From 1978 until 1987 he was a staff attorney with New Hampshire Legal Assistance in its Claremont office and in Concord. He has been a member of the New Hampshire Bar since 1978 and is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
He regularly represents pro bono clients and is currently the chair of the board of the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont. He has been a longstanding member of the board of the Office of Public Guardian and has been involved in a number of civic and community groups over the years. He has also served as a member of the NHBA Board of Governors representing Sullivan County members and on various bar committees, including the Legislation and Ethics committees.
