Programs on Legal Issues and Benefits for Seniors


Several programs regarding legal issues of interest to senior citizens are scheduled for the month of October at The Centennial Senior Center, 37 Regional Drive, Concord.  Chiara Dolcino, Legal Education Coordinator of the LEARN program, said the programs are open to members and non-members alike.  To register or to contact Dolcino, call 228-6630 or email her at: cdolcino@centennialseniorcenter.org.

 

Scams, Spam and other Schemes

 

A guest speaker from the New Hampshire Department of Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-trust Bureau will discuss common scams.   Monday, Oct. 3, 12:30-2:00 pm.  Cost: FREE

 

How Will You Pay the Nursing Home?

 

Medicaid is the only government program which can help pay for long term nursing home care. Recently, the NH legislature passed a bill that might make it more difficult to qualify for Medicaid and which allows the state more authority to seek reimbursement from you /your family.  Friday, Oct. 13,  5:00-7:30 pm.  Cost: $10.00

 

The New Medicare Prescription Drug Program—Medicare D

 

A speaker from the State Bureau of Elderly Services will discuss how the Medicare D program can help seniors pay for prescription drugs and what other savings are available to low-income seniors. Friday, Oct. 14, 10:00-noon.  Cost:  FREE

 

Understanding Property Tax Assessments

 

City of Concord Tax Assessor Kathy Temchack will discuss recent change in assessed value for property.  Find out how you can appeal your assessment.  Friday, Oct. 21,  10:30-noon.  Cost:  FREE

 

Death Taxes—Is It True That You Can’t Avoid Them?

 

New Hampshire has repealed its death tax.  The federal death (estate) tax is scheduled to phase out—or is it?   The class will help you discover whether you CAN avoid the death tax!  Tuesday, Oct. 25, 10:30-noon.  Cost:  $10.00
