Delaney Named Governor’s Counsel, Replacing Hanna

Michael Delaney, Deputy Attorney General, has been appointed by Gov. Lynch to succeed Katherine Hanna as his legal counsel.

Delaney, 36, was named deputy by Attorney General Kelly Ayotte in August 2004, after working for four years in the homicide unit. Delaney also was in private practice at the Wiggin & Nourie law firm in Manchester from 1994 to 1999 after he was admitted to the NH Bar. He has a law degree from Georgetown University School of Law. He lives in Manchester.

Hanna, named Lynch’s legal counsel when he took office last year, said she had made a one-year commitment to the job and would be returning to private practice at her previous firm, Sheehan Phinney Bass + Green in Manchester at the end of the year.

Ayotte said Delaney was “an excellent lawyer” and although she was sorry to see him leave the Department of Justice, he would only be “moving across the street” and she looked forward to working closely with him in his new role.
