In Memoriam
Meyer “Mike” Green, 89, a member of the NH Bar since 1940, died on Dec. 13, 2005 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. He was born in Manchester in 1913, the son of Abraham and Lena Green and graduated from Central High School. He attended the University of New Hampshire and Boston University Law School, from which he graduated in 1939. During World War II, Attorney Green worked for the Wage & Price Administration. A lifelong member of Temple Adath Yeshurn, Green served on its board. He also was a member of the Manchester Jewish Community Center, the brotherhood of Temple Adath Yeshurn and the Manchester Lions Club. Attorney Green was also one of the founders of The Derryfield School and was recently honored by the Manchester Boys’ Club as its oldest member.
Mr. Green is survived by two sons, Leonard S. Green and his wife, Elinor, of Manchester and Scott E. Green of Manchester; two granddaughters, Lauryl McGowan and her husband, Dermot, of Whitman, Mass., and Robin Young and her husband, Andrew, of Fitchburg, Mass.; one brother Fredrick Green of Boca Raton, Fla., and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Green was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Pauline (Berly) Green. Seven brothers and sisters also predeceased him.
Susan Jane Cawthorne, 58, of The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida, died on Dec. 5, 2005. She was a graduate of Suffolk Law School and had been a member of the NH Bar since 1988. Attorney Cawthorne was also a member of the Florida Bar and the American Bar Association. She was always willing to assist and counsel the residents of The Villages, a retirement community. Attorney Cawthorne was an avid tennis player and skier, enjoyed quilting and was a lifelong lover of the arts.
She is survived by her daughter Lori Parrish, her son Jeffrey Cawthorne, two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters and her brother James Casselman.
Efrain G. Sanchez, 97, died Dec. 31, 2005, in St. Theresa Manor in Manchester. He was born in Puerto Rico in 1908 and had been a resident of Manchester since 1931. When in the U.S. Army during World War II, Sanchez was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He attended St. Anselm College and the University of Tuscaloosa and earned his law degree from Harvard University. He joined the NH Bar in 1949 and practiced criminal law in both New York City and in Manchester for over 50 years. Among his extracurricular interests was opera, which he loved.
Mr. Sanchez was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Madeleine Lessard Sanchez, in 2000. He is survived by a sister Ana M. Gotay Cochran of Chelmsford, Mass. and by several nieces and nephews.
