Attorneys in a Unique Position To Solicit Aid
As an example of how a lawyer can be influential in soliciting resources during time of need, George Bruno, an attorney for Lawserve in Manchester and Chair of the International Law Section, relates the following incident:
“My client, Mr. Guo Xiang Chen, General Manager of Nantong Anda Power Machinery Co., Ltd., of Nantong, China recently made a donation of 50 gasoline-powered mobile electric generators (valued at about $20,000) to the flood victims of New Hampshire.
“This gift came as a result of a business trip I made to Shanghai; Mr. Chen had sympathized with the highly publicized hurricane Katrina victims and donated 250 generators at a total value of over $80,000. About the time of my visit, NH was experiencing severe flooding in the western part of the state. I asked Mr. Chen if he would make a gift to NH as well, and he agreed, pleased to make this donation as a gesture of friendship and concern.”
Legal Help for Katrina Survivors
Temporary rules allow pro bono attorneys from other states to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina, if they work through organized legal services programs. Visit http://www.abanet.org/katrina/ or the NHBA Hurricane relief page at www.nhbar.org for info on how you can help.
