Law Related Education: We the People Champions Seek Support
By: By David Alcox, Teacher/Coach
Students from Milford High School, 2006 state champions of the “We the People… the Citizen and the Constitution,” competition are preparing to compete in the National Tournament held in Washington, DC. in April.
The “We the People…” program, sponsored in NH by the NHBA Law-Related Education program with support from the NH Bar Foundation, is the most extensive education program in the country developed to teach young people about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Past members of the Milford High state champion teams have served as Senate Pages, won numerous political essay contests, served as delegates to Washington, DC in the US Senate Youth Program, served as delegates to Girls State and Girls Nation, and received substantial scholarships to major colleges, based on knowledge and poise attained through the “We the People” program. Past members quite often come back to Milford HS and share their experiences with current students and relate the importance of this program and the impact the course has had on their lives.
