Supreme Court Rule 53 - Compliance Tips: Changes To Your Annual NHMCLE Filing In 2006

In the near future, you will receive an interim report of your attendance as submitted by CLE sponsors.  This is a first step in the new filing process that relies both on sponsors to make timely attendance reports and on you to apply within 30 days of completing any courses that are not approved in NH and to review your online CLE attendance record for accuracy periodically during the year.  This report will be for your information only. If you have any questions about the CLE requirement or need application forms, you are encouraged to visit www.nhbar.org, NHMCLE SC Rule 53 for additional information.

Later this year, the NHMCLE Board will send a final report of all the attendance that has been submitted on your behalf from CLE sponsors for you to verify, edit if necessary, sign and return, if you have met the minimum requirements.  If you have not met the requirements, instructions will be included for you to comply. The information on this report will reflect the attendance displayed in your online CLE record.  The annual CLE requirement and the reporting year have NOT changed and you are encouraged to complete your CLE credits by June 30, 2006, the end of the reporting year.

Whenever you attend a program you wish to claim for CLE credit, ask the sponsor if it is accredited in NH and if it is, request that your attendance be reported to NHMCLE.  NHBA CLE program attendance is automatically reported to NHMCLE. You may also check to see if a course is accredited in NH by selecting “Courses” after accessing your online CLE record as explained below.  CLE programs presented by Annual Sponsors automatically qualify for credit, and you may review the list of those sponsors at the above Web site address. If the course you take is not accredited by the NHMCLE Board, use the Attorney Credit Application Form to apply within 30 days of the program’s conclusion.  You may download it from the Web site.

Accessing Your Online CLE Record

First you must have a current email address on file with NHBA.  If you have not notified NHBA of your email address or wish to change it, please send an email message to NHBAinfo@nhbar.org  and allow several days for the change to be recorded.

Go to www.nhbar.org and log into the Casemaker area in the upper right corner.  If you have never done it before, send an email to NHBAinfo@nhbar.org. Indicate “member login” in the subject field and a response will be sent as soon as possible after verifying your member status.

After you log in, you will be in the For Members section. Select NHMCLE Attorney Records in the lower right corner.  Accept the security prompts and look to the left side of the next screen where you will see your name under Current Year Summary.  Select the word “more” underneath the summary or select “Attendance” in the headline and you should see any carry-over credit and your individual course details.  You may send an email to NHMCLE if there is a problem with any of the listings by clicking on the ? next to the course title and explaining the problem.

The credits in the new system are listed a little differently from what you are accustomed to seeing.  For each program in the new system, you add together the credits listed under Ethics and General to come up with the total credits for that program.
