Law Firms Support Benefit Ski Race
Representing the Dirstrict court (left to right): Matthew Hurd, Douglas Hurd, Hon. Peter Hurd, and Hon. Paul S. Moore | On March 11, 2006 the New England Handicapped Sports Association (NEHSA) held its 20th Annual Corporate Ski Challenge fund-raising event at the Mt. Sunapee Resort in Sunapee, NH. NEHSA is a non-profit volunteer organization whose mission is to provide adaptive recreational activities to the disabled community. The event raised $15,000.
In 2000, the NEHSA Corporate Challenge was renamed the Ted Jordan Memorial Race in memory of Nashua attorney Ted Jordan, a long-time supporter of NEHSA who died of cancer. A Legal Division was established in 2002 to recognize the participation of the legal profession. Lawyers, judges or members of law-related teams now comprise 60 percent of the participants in this year’s race.
Placing third in the event were the Jordanaires from the Law Firm of Jordan, Maynard and Parodi, with a combined time of 75.54. Coming in second was the Supreme Court with a combined time of 63.34. The first place team, the Younger Jordanaires won the race with a combined time of 62.15.
The Legal Division-Masters statistics were as follows: third place, Leta Malchan with a time of 26.12; second place, Bob (Bode) Parodi with a time of 24.19; and first place the Honorable William Groff at 22.15. Two of the fastest male skiers were Bar members: Jeff (Jetski) Brown with a time of 20.82, Andy (the Bullet) Brown with a time of 21.43. B.J. Cabana with a time of 26.19 was fastest in the snowboard division.
The success of this event has allowed NEHSA to continue its work with the disabled to include summer camps for severely handicapped children as well as to provide recreational activities for veterans disabled in the Iraq War. NEHSA particularly thanks Bob Parodi and Ken Brown as the honorary chairmen of this event and the Honorable Paul Moore and Jean Finlay as event coordinators.
