In Memoriam: Robert E. Dunning, Jr.
Robert E. (Bob) Dunning, Jr., an active member of the NH Bar Association and the NH Bar Foundation and also of the city of Concord’s Economic Development Council, died in Naples, Fla. on Monday March 1 at the age of 62. He will be sorely missed by family and friends and by the home builders of New Hampshire.
Born on Sept. 25, 1943 in Chicago, Bob grew up in Connecticut, graduating from Williston Academy in North Hampton, Mass. He received a degree in geology from Beloit College in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School. He married Carol Sargent and moved to New Hampshire in 1968.
Dunning joined the New Hampshire Bar in 1970; with his brother Craig he formed the Dunning Home Group and they built over 200 homes in the Concord area. In 1988 Bob was named Builder of the Year. He felt strongly about the proper and beautiful use of land and land development. Even while ill, he led the effort to form a Workforce Housing Committee for the Chamber of Commerce.
Bob will be remembered as an honest and fair man with high standards and a never-failing sense of humor, even during his illness. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; by two daughters, Tasha Dunning and her partner Deb Valieres; and Sara Doolan and her husband Chris; two granddaughters; his parents, Robert and Mary Dunning of Concord, his brother Craig Dunning and his sister Louise Paustenbach; and many relatives, friends and colleagues.
The facts for this obituary came from the Concord Monitor of March 3, 2006.
In memory of our colleague Robert E. Dunning, the New Hampshire Bar Association’s Board of Governors has contributed to the New Hampshire Bar Foundation, 112 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301.
