This change in the civil filing fee and the notice of appeal fee will become effective April 9, 2006, 60 days from the date the bill was signed into law by the President.
Please note that the filing fee for a miscellaneous case and for a writ of habeas corpus will remain $39 and $5, respectively. Additionally, while the total fees for filing a Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy case have increased to $299 and $274, respectively, the fees for filing an adversary proceeding or an appeal to the district court or bankruptcy appellate panel are not impacted by this legislation at this time.
