We the People Program Seeks Volunteers
We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution program takes place in December and January, but planning for the event is underway now. Bar members are encouraged to volunteer to become panelists at simulated Congressional hearings and examine students on questions pertaining to Constitutional issues.
Students from around the state are studying a curriculum developed by the Center for Civic Education in California. Volunteer Bar members (and lawmakers and educators) will listen to students speaking in defense of various principles and aspects of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. These “hearings” are held at the Legislative Office Building, giving the proceedings a greater sense of reality.
The event takes place on Dec. 15, 2006, with the state finals on Jan 12, 2007. The winning state team then competes nationally in Washington, DC in the spring. For more details see the volunteer form on this page.
