Chief Justice Thanks Coos Lawyers
All of us at the Supreme Court want to express our thanks to the volunteer lawyers who helped prepare school students in the North Country for our “On the Road” special session at Berlin Junior High School on Oct. 26.

All five members of the Supreme Court (left to right, Richard Galway, Linda Dalianis, John Broderick, James Duggan, Gary Hicks) participated in a question and answer session with members of the Coos County Bar following an "On the Road" program at Berlin Junior High School. |
Last month, Coos County Bar members hosted members of the NH Supreme Court at a reception in the newly refurbished Berlin District Court. The Court thanked area attorneys for participating in orientation programs at schools attending oral argument held at Berlin Junior High School. |
Before the event, these lawyers took time out of their busy days to visit with students at 11 participating schools to review the cases to be heard by the court and to discuss the legal issues involved. That advance preparation greatly enhances the educational value of the ‘On the Road” program and we are grateful that North Country lawyers were so enthusiastic about their role in this very important public outreach project. Close to 400 students attended the event and during the question and answer sessions, it was clear that they had been very well prepared and had learned much about the justice system.
The lawyers who visited the participating schools are: Philip Waystack Jr.; Ruth Heinz; Pierre Morin; Robert Mekeel; Len Harden; Paul Chant; Jennifer Sawyer; David King; Jonathan Frizzell; Robert Brazil; Jack Crisp; Jay Riff; David Carlson; Debra Zuk; and Tom Rappa.
While we were in Berlin, we also attended a reception organized by Attorney Zuk, the president of the Coos County Bar Association; Family and District Court Judge James E. Michalik and David Carlson, the clerk of Coos County Superior Court. The event was held in the beautifully restored courtroom at Berlin District Court and was a wonderful opportunity for all of us to meet lawyers, judges and court staff from the North Country. It was clear to each of us why those who practice law there and work in our courts consider the North Country to be a very special place. We want to thank everyone in Berlin for their hospitality and enthusiasm during our visit and we look forward to working with everyone there again.
