The 2007 Vickie M. Bunnell Award for Community Service will be presented on Thursday, Feb. 15 at the NHBA Midyear Meeting Honors & Awards luncheon to Laconia attorney Matthew J. Lahey.

Also, attorney and part-time district court judge Paul Moore will receive the NHBA Distinguished Service to the Public Award. (More information on attorney Moore’s activities will appear in the next issue of Bar News.)

Lahey, a solo practitioner since 1999 (he started in practice with Phillip McLaughlin and Robert Hemeon after his admission to the Bar in 1983), has been active for the past 14 years in city government, and is currently in his second stint as mayor of the City of Laconia.

“Once you get involved, it becomes a part of you,” says Lahey of his dedication to community activities. “I don’t hunt, or fish, or bowl or play golf – this is what I like to do!” he says of the countless meetings and briefing sessions he has attended as mayor and city councilor (He served on the City Council from 1992 to 1996, and then as mayor from 1996-2002 and again starting last year.)  Before that, he was heavily involved in coaching Little League softball and baseball and the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation. 

Lahey, a 51-year-old father of three, is a Laconia native – in fact, he is such a homebody that he lives in the same house where he grew up – having purchased the house a few years after his father had sold it.
